A highly entertaining American success story. I don’t care a whole lot about sports, but I love a good movie about sports, and this is definitely one. Well, tangentially about sports anyway, more like the business side of sports which makes it more of a Jerry Maguire thing.
Jerry Maguire is one of my all-time favorite films. Air is no Jerry Maguire, because even though it’s really fun and funny and heartfelt its ultimate message seems to be “GETTING RICH IS AWESOME!!” and Jerry Maguire is deeper and more pure than that.
Also, while I’m all for movies emulating Jerry Maguire, using a key piece of music from that film (His Name is Alive’s “Sitting Still Moving Still Staring Outlooking”) might be pushing it a bit.
But this is a really good movie. So many entertaining performances, it’s funny, it’s under two hours (itself a rarity these days), and it’s got one of the best non-stop pop soundtracks I’ve heard in a long time. Really good time at the movies!
