The Boogeyman is based on a story that we all heard about as kids. He's the monster that lives under your child's bed or in their closet and comes out to get them when they are sleeping at night. The film is essentially based on this story, with a little bit of "Lights Out" thrown in for good measure. This Boogeyman not only comes after the kids but also goes after the entire family, usually targeting families dealing with some type of grief or parents who are not paying attention to their kids.
I thought the film started off very well. There's an opening scene that led most audiences to believe that they were in for a scary, horrific ride. However, the film kind of fizzles in parts from there. I found the film to be quite scary in selected parts but overall, this isn't something that I would personally feel the need to revisit. The film doesn't do anything wrong, but it wasn't very original as it was heavily influenced by several other films. I do think most horror fans will enjoy it, however.
