Jason's Review of Ambulance 2022 ★★★½

Watched May 02, 2022

It feels downright strange (in a good way) to see an action movie on the big screen these days with absolutely zero fantasy elements. No freakin’ superheroes. Just cops and robbers. Nice. Ambulance definitely has some significant problems: in addition to the overlength, the tone is all over the place and it’s bloated and overwrought.

BUT it felt great to see a movie like this again, not gonna lie. It was like time traveling back to the ‘90s, when movies like Bad Boys and The Rock and Con Air were coming out on a regular basis. I didn’t realize how much I missed that, but I did. They truly don’t make them like this anymore. Never thought of myself as a big Michael Bay fan, but his best movies (which includes the aforementioned Bad Boys and The Rock in addition to Pain & Gain and now this) have genuine style and panache, and they look and sound great. And no freakin’ superheroes. At this point that feels like a breath of fresh air all by itself.
