Antebellum is a horror film that stars Janelle Monáe as Eden, a slave during the middle of the Civil War. She lives on a plantation on the Southern/Confederate side with very mean, abusive, and murderous slave owners. You can tell something is unique about Eden as she seems a little out of place on the Plantation. One night Eden goes to sleep and then the film goes to Present Day where Janelle Monae's character is now Veronica, an Author and Public Speaker for Black empowerment. However, you can tell there is some sort of connection between both roles, past and present. I enjoyed this film more than I thought I would based on the mixed reviews. Although it was produced by the same people who made US and Get Out, the film felt like it might have been better served if Jordan Peele was the Director as well. The connection and twist were really good but I had a few issues with some of the logic and acting in just a few places. Overall still an entertaining film.
