"Get over here!"
Mortal Kombat a film based off the game about a group of MMA Fighters with special powers who fight to the death in a tournament of the same name. In this film, Cole Young (who I don't believe was ever a character in the game), is an washed up MMA fighter who is attacked by Sub Zero, as the Mortal Kombat villains are trying to kill anyone who has a special mark on their body as they could be a potential threat to the tournament. Cole soon learns that he is not alone and there are other fighters who are being targeted. They soon learn of a place where they can receive training and unlock their special skills in order to fight in the upcoming tournament.
The plot is pretty basic as the game itself was pretty basic as well. The game is just a bunch of character doing battle to the death. I used to play this game as a kids but it has been well over 20 years since I played it and forgot many of the character's name and fighting skills. Many have complained that the story and acting was rather weak, which while I do not dispute, I still overall enjoyed the film. It is not the best action film I've ever seen by far, but there is enough fighting, death and carnage that I was never bored watching the film. Some have also said on the flipside that you can't really critique this film or say it a bad film if you've never played the game. My argument to that is, if you have to had played the game in order for the movie to be good, then is it really a good movie?
If I had any major gripe about the film, it would be that they never actual face on in the Mortal Kombat. I guess we will have to wait for the sequel for that...
