The Last Duel is based on a true story and stars Matt Damon as Jean and Adam Driver as Jacques. Jean and Jacques are both Knights who are friends and comrades in battle. Jacques takes a liking to Jean's wife played by Jodie Cormer; and while Jean is off doing battle, Jacques visits Jean's wife and there is a sexual encounter between the two. Jean's wife says she was raped by Jacques, but Jacques contends the sex was consensual. Back in these times when there was a dispute both parties could agree to a Duel to the Death to decide who is telling the truth. The loser, or the one who dies must be the one who lied. What a way to settle a dispute! The film also co-stars Ben Affleck in one of the worst haircuts I've ever seen!
This film is told from 3 different points of view with each participant telling their version of what happened. While this concept sounds interesting it makes for a very long film which I found to be unnecessary. I personally didn't need to 3 different versions of the same story, especially when Jean's version wouldn't matter as he wasn't there when the sexual encounter actually happened. Overall the film does have some good battle scenes and the Duel at the end is pretty exciting, but the film to just to long for me love it.
