Kierre's Review of Nope 2022 ★★★½

Watched Jul 23, 2022

Nope is the third film by Jordan Peeple and stars Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer as a brother and sister who own and train horses out in dessert just outside of Hollywood. Strange things begin happening with their horses disappearing and objects falling out of the sky and they both feel that there may be a supernational element in the sky. The film also stars Steven Yeun, Brandon Perea, Michael Wincott, and Keith David.

This is probably Peeple's biggest buget film to date and one where it is more Science Fiction vs Horror. It is really hard to go into details regarding the film without giving too much away, but I will say that I enjoyed it quite a bit. It is scary in parts and there are many nuggets of Social Commentary included as with all of his films. However, I will state that the Social Commentary in this case is very subtle and there may be some viewers who either don't get certain parts of this film or may not enjoy this film. I found it to be interesting and entertaining throughout, although there are some things that bothered me towards the end. While it is not as good as "Get Out" or even "Us", in my opinion it is still a very satisfying film!
