Kierre's Review of Scream 2022 ★★★

Watched Jan 24, 2022

SCREAM is the 4th sequel of the original film by the same name, about a killer ( or killers) wearing a "Ghost Face" mask and dressed in all black. In this film which is about 26 years after the original film, a new "Ghost Face" killer is back in the fictional town of Woodsboro where the killer attacks a young girl, causing her older sister to return to town to find out why someone is attacking her family. We soon learn that the attack may have something to do with her past. The film stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, and Jack Quaid. I've been a big fan of the SCREAM series overall. I loved the first 2 films quite a bit but thought the 3rd and 4th films were just ok. This film may have been a little better than #3 and #4 but I did have a few issues with it as well. Going into the film, the characters act like this new killer is going to be something different than the previous ones, but for me it felt like more of the same. Same 3 main characters Sidney, Gale, and Dewey, (although they did take a back seat to the new younger actors), and it is always basically set in the same fictional town. I mean, how many copycat serial killers can there be in Woodsboro? I enjoyed the film overall but it would be nice to see it set in a different town and a whole new cast as well as a whole new storyline of some sort. Also the whole "explaining what killers do in movies" within the film is starting to get a little played out in my opinion. Pointing out the cliches, has basically become a cliche in itself. I know I sound as if I'm being critical of the film, but overall it was funny in parts and does have enough thrills to keep any Horror fan entertained. It was a good horror film, it just wasn't great! For a longer review, please visit my YouTube Channel, SacTown Movie Buffs and I've included a link to the full review below. youtu.be/osub271HcBw
