Vengeance stars B. J. Novak (who also wrote and directed the film) as Ben, a New York Writer who receives a phone call from a man altering him of an overdose death of a girl living in Texas that Ben was casually dating. Her family however think that he and the girl were in a very serious relationship and invite him to come to the funeral in Texas. After the funeral, the girl's family tell him that they don't think she just overdosed and that she was murdered, as she supposedly never did drugs. Ben soon starts an investigative podcast to learn the truth. The film also co-stars Boyd Holbrook, J. Smith-Cameron, Issa Rae, and Ashton Kutcher. I found the film to be very funny in parts and interesting. Although it was a potential murder investigation, the film is also about the differences between Northerners and Southerners as Ben has a lot of opinions about people from the south and vice versa. I did enjoy the film, but it is somewhat forgettable for me as well. It is the type of film that doesn't really do anything wrong but also doesn't do anything great either, in my opinion. It is still a solid film that I would recommend.
